The government has decided to extend the due date of filing for GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 for the month of July to 30 November and 11 December. This decision of the government is expected to provide relief to a lot of taxpayers who were facing the problem with filing the GSTR 2 due to website errors. Earlier, the last date of filing the GSTR 2 was 31st October 2017. However, people were facing issues while generating the utility as their transactions were sometimes not reflecting into the GST portal. Hence, the government decided to extend the due date for GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 respectively.

Extension has become a regular habit?

Some critics of the government have said that the extending the due date has become a regular part of the government and blamed that government has failed to provide the proper infrastructure to the taxpayers for the smooth transition of the GST law. However, the taxpayers and the professionals has appreciated this move of the government and have said that it is an excellent move by the government keeping in mind the technical issues faced by them while filing their returns.

Problem for taxpayers who failed to file GSTR 1?

Only those categories of taxpayers who have failed to file the GSTR 1 are not happy with this news as they will not be able to file the GSTR 1 up to November 30, i.e. before 30 November. Now, they will have to Rs.200 per day up to 30 November. However, since the government has been lenient on the taxpayers till now, we may expect a late fees waiver anytime soon.

Conclusion

Hence, in the end, it is sigh of relief for the taxpayers who can now file their GSTR 2 up to 30 November, 2017.
