What are consolidated E-way bill under GST?

1.0 Introduction

We all know that e-way bill is generated for the supply of goods from one place to another. It is the bill mandatory for every transporter to carry along with the goods. E-way bill is the document required for the movement of goods above Rs.50,000/-.

There are certain cases where the supplier is sending multiple goods in a single vehicle for which he is required to get the e-way bill for each consignment individually. However, to provide ease to the transporter, the government has provided the option to generate a combined bill for all the goods which are required to be transported.

Hence, in this article, we will discuss the consolidated e-way bill and how to update vehicle number in it.

Let’s discuss the provisions when a supplier is sending multiple consignments in a single transport.

2.0 What is consolidated e-way bill under GST?

When a supplier is sending multiple consignments in a single vehicle then a consolidated e-way bill is generated which will have information of all the consignments.

Here the supplier will have to put the e-way bill numbers of all the consignment on the online portal and he will receive a consolidated bill in return for it.

All the e-way bill numbers are necessary to be updated as it is mandatory by the government. By the provision of consolidated goods, the hassle to carry all the bills along with the transportation has ended.

In other words;

When a transporter is taking different consignments in a single vehicle he must update the serial number of each consignment individually on the portal to get a consolidated bill of the goods.

In this case, the transporter along with the serial number of consignment has to update the vehicle number as well in which transportation will happen.

Every supplier is under the obligation of providing the vehicle number on the website as to get it printed on the e-way bill.

3.0 Procedure to update vehicle number in consolidated e-way bill

Before moving your goods you have to get an e-way bill and in the case of multiple goods, the consolidated e-way bill is required to be generated. Further, the system gives an option to update the vehicle number in your bill.

Not everyone is aware hence below are the points/steps that you need to follow –

#Step no 1 – Visit the website

Visit the website http://gst.kar.nic.in/ewaybill/ and select e-way bill option. After putting your GSTN and other details you will be redirected to a new window.

#Step no 2 – Select Consolidated EWB

Now to take the further step you will have to select the option of ‘consolidated EWB’ and under this will be a sub option of ‘update vehicle’ and this screen will appear afterward.

#Step no 3 – Choose the relevant consolidated bill

On the above-attached screen, you can either choose to provide the consolidated bill no or date of generation of the bill. By providing the information the applicant will get a list of e-way bills in which you will be required to select the particular one you wish to update your vehicle number

#Step no 4 – update the vehicle number and details
